Lebenslauf

Michael Waidner ist der Leiter des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Sichere Informationstechnologie (Fraunhofer SIT) und zugleich Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik an der Technischen Universität Darmstadt. Er ist auch verantwortlich für zwei in Darmstadt angesiedelte Kompetenzzentren: für das vom BMBF geförderte European Center for Security and Privacy by Design (ECSPRIDE) sowie für das vom Hessischen LOEWE Programm geförderte Center for Advanced Security Research Darmstadt (CASED).

Er promovierte 1991 an der Universität Karlsruhe (heute: KIT) und kam 1994 zum IBM Zurich Research Lab in Rüschlikon. Bis 2006 leitete er dort die Forschung im Bereich der IT Sicherheit und des Datenschutzes und war einer der Initiatoren des Zurich Information Security Centers (ZISC) an der ETH Zürich. Danach wechselte er zu IBM in New York und war dort bis 2010 als IBM Distinguished Engineer und Chief Technology Officer for Security verantwortlich für die technische Sicherheitsstrategie und -architektur der IBM Corporation. Seit 2010 ist er Institutsleiter und Professor in Darmstadt.

Michael Waidner ist Autor von über 130 wissenschaftlichen Veröffentlichungen, Erfinder von über 20 Patenten. Er ist IEEE Fellow und ACM Distinguished Scientist, und war während seiner Zeit bei IBM ein gewähltes Mitglieder der IBM Academy of Technology.

Curriculum Vitae

Michael Waidner is the director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Informationtechnology (Fraunhofer SIT) and Chair Professor for Security in IT at the Technische Universität Darmstadt. He is also responsible for two competency centers located in Darmstadt: for the European Center for Security and Privacy by Design (ECSPRIDE), which is funded by the BMBF, and for the Center for Advanced Security Research Darmstadt (CASED), which is funded by the  LOEWE Program of Hesse.

He received his PhD from the University of Karlsruhe (now known as KIT) in 1991. In 1994 he joined the IBM Zurich Research Lab in Rüschlikon, Switzerland, where he was responsible for the research activities in the areas of IT security and privacy. He was one of the initiators of the Zurich Information Security Center (ZISC) at the ETH Zurich. In 2006 he moved to IBM in New York. Until 2010 he was an IBM Distinguished Engineer and the Chief Technology Officer for Security, responsible for the technical security strategy and architecture of the IBM Corporation. In 2010 he left IBM and came to Darmstadt.

Michael Waidner authored more than 130 scientific publications and is inventor of more than 20 patents. He is an IEEE Fellow and an ACM Distinguished Scientist, and at IBM he was an elected member of the IBM Academy of Technology.
